There's something admirable about Hong Kongers
Upon reflection and choosing to believe there's something very admirable about Hongkongers:
- William's parents in law could be our role models. Imagine when we've reached their age, would we be as open, enthusiastic and passionate towards life and learning? Or would we rather stick to the good old familiar people, places, things and gradually distancing ourselves from the world?
- William and Joanna could be our role models. For they love and respect their parents so much. They take time and exercise great patience to accompany and support the elderly.
- Great toastmasters community spirit. For many people (esp. Doris, Grace, Zachary, Doris, Pat, Jake) has helped directly or indirectly to resolve the misunderstanding. Thanks very much for being there!
We, toastmasters come together to learn effective communication and that may include
communicating with the elderly. Let's welcome with open arms, love and patience when we next meet William and his family at our meeting, maybe in December.
I would like to end my reflection with a meaningful ppt 看父母就是看自已的未來It's in Chinese and I've translated some key points.
A look at your parents is a look at your future
One day, if you notice at your parents' house,
Mum's kitchen is not as clean as before
Dad's garden is nice and tidy no more
Mum's cooking is tasteless or salty
floor and cupboard are dirty or dusty
One day if you notice
your parents' habit is no longer a habit
for they no longer want to take daily shower
for they no longer like crunchy fruits or veggies
When that "one day" comes,
realise and accept your parents are ageing and needing help
Everybody ages, our parents age faster than us
Remembering a reversal of role,
may we provide better care with patience and no complaint
Their room maybe smelly that they not know
Complain not about the smell or dirt
help to clean up, their pride you shall preserve
When they no longer love shower, arrange help
for even if they could do it on their own, it may not be clean
Prepare less chewy food or food that is soft to eat
for their teeth may bite no more
Since our birth, our parents never cease to provide
When one day they have to stop
Is not time to reverse the role?

树欲静风不止，子欲养亲不在
Roughly translated as:
Tree desires stillness, the wind won’t stop
Child desires to feed, parents not around
